Monkey See

True to my word I'm submitting my second window pic for this Wednesday in September. Today Dan and I went to Howlett's Wild Animal Park in Bekesbourne, near Canterbury. In case you are ever asked, Howlett's was the first zoo in the world to breed the honey badger... and perhaps more interestingly (albeit macabre) it managed to lose two keepers to the same Iberian tiger in 1980 and another keeper met his death cleaning a tiger cage in 1994 (amazing, innit?). So you're not too sad, this is a major conservation park, not just an excuse for people to cage animals up for their personal amusement... however, if I were to guess I would say those tigers in question were either extremely amused or extremely pissed off. Anyhow, this is a photo through the window of the gorilla colony enclosure. If you look carefully you can see some lovely primates in the background. If it was "Cage Wednesday" they might have appeared a bit more prominently, but they didn't really get all that close to this window when I was taking the pic. The gorillas were incredibly animated and playful. Loads of young and babies too. They seemed pretty content, even happy, but maybe that's because they haven't been talking to the tigers.

Call it food for thought. Themes are good. I have no problem with themes. I agree the name of this theme could use some work, but the pics will be windows and we'll be doing this on Wednesdays so the name is better than Nule Post Nightly.

This is my kitchen window. I look out of this window quite a lot when I am acting out my 50's housewife role of cooking and cleaning. I'm not a 50's housewife. Presently, I cook and clean in exchange for food, shelter and artistic freedom. Dan makes this arrangement possible. He doesn't make me wear a housecoat. He doesn't wear a housecoat either. We are lacking in housecoats. I like Ward Cleaver, but June wasn't very artistic. I don't think June would understand the merits of wine, bread and cheese for dinner. Fortunately we have a dishwasher so I don't have dishpan hands.

Bananas are good. We always have bananas. They aren't always in this vase. They are actually never in this vase, but the cantaloupe didn't fit. I thought the bananas made the vase look more interesting, which made the window look more interesting. The kitchen window is in our rented bungalow. The kitchen isn't very interesting, but it works. The bungalow is home to many varieties of arachnid. This is interesting, but kind of frightening and icky. The window looks into the back garden. The garden is interesting in that it caters to many lovely birds. I can hear them twittering right now. The birds would like the spiders in the bungalow, but I don't know how to describe the flavor on the menu so I don't invite them in. The birds aren't annoying and icky at all. Especially the black birds. As far as I know, black birds have no connection to bananas.

welcome to window wednesday.
this is the window in my office.

i have been a little busy these days, between job searching (which mostly consists of internet surfing, checking craigslist every 15 minutes, composing emails and attaching pdf's and waiting for no one to respond in any way shape or form, and crying) working on my one freelance project (which also makes me cry sometimes), cooking dinners and going to hot sweaty yoga 3x a week and planning for our upcoming vacation-type activities (i'm going to seattle for 3 days and then we are going to marfa for 3 days) so i haven't had much time for picture taking or blogging.

but i like the idea of themes and a series of similar images over time, so i hereby declare wednesdays to be "window wednesday" feel free to interpret "window" in any way you please, also feel free to not participate if you think "window wednesday" is a stupid idea. i know it doesn't sound very cool. kind of dorky, just because window and wednesday both start with W. (this was all really jak's idea) i would never think up something so dorky sounding, i might think up the window idea, but i wouldn't call it window wednesday, i would call it something cool like.........
